Weekend Adventures

Should have put "adventures" in quotes. Was getting extremely bored on Saturday. Did not feel like reading, talking, writing blog or replying to e-mails eithers. I thought I will take another round of Residency. But on reaching Pureniya Chauraha (The place that connects us IIM residents to the rest of the city and world) no sumo/tempo seemed to be going there and it turned out that the road was blocked for some reason and even rickshaw won't go there. Did not know what to do. So, ended up going to Universal and bought couple of books. Though I already have several unread books lying with me, but was not in a mood to read Dickens or Emile Bronte or Kiran Bedi. So, got two books of Tagore (Four Chapters and Broken Ties - short novels) and another book containing three short novels of Amrita Preetam. Studying "Legal Aspects of Management" was not quite interesting; so ended up reading all these through rest of the day and sunday as well.

I like Tagore for reasons I can not very well articulate. One of them possibly is that the urge for freedom was very high in him and directly or indirectly it shows in his work. And yes, most of his female characters are also reasonable, not dumb dolls :-) be it Lolita or Sucharita of "Gora", or Ela of "Four Chapters". They have their faults and mistakes, but not dumbness.

Two of Amrita Preetam's novels were nice emotional doses. The other one "Unke Hastakshar" is a strong feminist voice, suiting the context in which it was written - written with the right dose of sarcasm...
