Just Like That
For a change, its not Bachchan this time and these lines are also rather famous -
िमलन अन्त है मधुर प्रॆम का
और िवरह जीवन है
िवरह प्रॆम की जाग्रत गित है
और सुषुप्ित िमलन है ।
(Sumitranandan Pant?? - I am confused, can somebody confirm the poet?)
Literal Translation (To the extent I could do it):
Union is the end of the sweet love and separation is its life. Separation is the living state of love, union is the sleeping one.

Just yestreday I read a story by Tagore, The Elder Sister and he describes exactly the same kind of situation. Let me know if u find out the author. I would like to read the context in which it has been written

Gravatar Oh my God!
I know the Union will end the love episode, which is keeping us in sublime trance during the separation.
Even then I will try for the Union rather than the seperation. But until we unite ,let's enjoy the separation.
So I keep praising You, adoring You, loving You and Your beautiful world which You have created around us.Our life is an unique event on earth, you have given to us to love your other fellows.

My friends,

Abhaya: More likely than not, it is by Sumitranandan Pant. There is only a very small probability that it is someone else. But beyond that you will have to find for yourself since I do not know in which poem/book he wrote it.
Prem: Nice to see a fellow Navodayan around! When did you pass out from JNVP? I did my 10th in 1998. Have visited your blog. Do keep writing and welcome to the community of bloggers

Prem: Actually there are various context to interpret this poem. Apart from one literal sense, it can also be read as alluding to life and death. All the time we are alive, we are away from the God and it is in death that we met him. Somehow the second interpretation seems more "literal" to me.

In fact, as I think over it, what you are interpreting it as is possibly the intended meaning. Assuming it is from Pant, it is from one of the four pillars of "Chhayawad" and they seem to be addressing God in all their poems which on superficial reading appear to be of "Shringaar Ras".
And since you seem to have developed a taste for Chhayawad, you should appreciate Mahadevi's poems better now
