Readings
Though the job is tiring (and stuck right now :( ), the only thing I can do while not working (or while waiting for people) is to read. So, it is proceeding pretty fast. After finishing Pather Panchali, read some stories from a collection of comptemporary Indian Love Stories (no, the selection of the book has got nothing to do with the subject of my last post). The best part of the book was the introduction by the editor (because of which I ended up buying the book). The stories didn't elate me. May be they didn't suit my mood.
Picked up "Rangabhoomi" after that - yeah one novel of Premchand that was pending for long. Am more than half way through it. It's after a long time that I am reading Premchand. And the same characteristic is obvious. How he starts with depicting one side of a character and later makes something totally different out of him/her. The fickleness, the weaknesses of human character are more than obvious in his creations. Somehow I feel that when I earlier read Premchand, I was not in a position to fully appreciate this side of the human-character - the world was closer to being black and white then... Things have changed a lot. Experience is the word. Gray is a favourite of mine now... And I appreciate Premchand better too :-)
More after finishing it.

Jayaji,
Premchand although himself tells that his life and hence writings are like untidy plains. But the writing flow seems to travel through the valleys of sorrows and forests of deep interhuman relationships too and very few times the peak of extreme happiness. But the stories flow like river.

If gray characters interest you, go for Innocent Blood by P.D James.
